September News letter from Charleston South Carolina

USS Jallao SS-368

Eternally grateful for those who preceded us and laid down their lives for our country, United States Submarines Veterans. God Bless our President.

The final Patrol

Lord, this departed shipmate with dolphins on his chest is part of an outfit known as the best. Make him welcome and take him by the hand. You'll find without a doubt he was the best in all the land.  So, heavenly Father, add his name to the roll of our departed ship mates still on patrol. Let them know that we who survive will always keep their memories alive.

From the base secretary! (Hoot), of the Charleston Sub-Vets Inc. to all Jallao shipmates where are all the inputs to our news letter? this means you will have to believe everything I tell you epically sea stories, I need some believable inputs, anyway for information on events going on in our area, I’ll put some inputs from our September news letter.

Hunley burial APRIL 17, 2004

Steve and Keith are the official lesion between the Hunley commission and All Sub-vets. (Steve is the base commander and Keith is the vice commander of the Charleston Base)

Keith has emailed all base commanders and informed them that all the functions of pall bearers will be coordinated through them not Kay Long who has been deluged with phone calls and requests. The walk is going to be 4.5 miles you have to be able to walk that distance. The uniform for the Hunley procession is, no hat, white shirt with Dolphin tie, blue blazers with Dolphins and ribbons, kaki pants and leather shoes. This is for pall bearers only, for the rest who want to attend you can wear your vest and hats.  Forty eight pall bearers will be needed, get your name on the list. Discussion on ribbons some has so many and some have few, if you want to wear ribbons do so!

This will be quite an event, there has been so many people calling for information that our local base had the act as the lesion for this event. I’ll attach the official schedule.

Charleston it self is a beautiful area full of history and laid back, they have restored many buildings, and the procession for the funeral will be escorted by the Civil War rein actors from both sides and starts at the battery.

This will give you an Idea of what is going on in our area, we also have Patriots point which is a naval museum, we get involved in various parades, we have a 35 foot miniature sub “The Thresher” which we use in our parades, the latest one was what we call See Saw days in a little town called Harleyville we have her all decked out in flags, we won second place.  Not bad.

 he Harleyville parade Charleston Base

For those who made it to the parade a good time was had by all, it was a little warm but with the liquid refreshments on board we managed to survive and prevent heat stroke, as the Cob said we won second place (Jolly Good) as we say in the UK. A feast followed at the Nelms ranch, hot dogs and beer.

We just took down all the colors and flags

  Where and who?

 For you Golfers

A Jallao sailor has been stranded on a deserted island all alone for ten years.

One day, he sees an unusual speck on the horizon. "It's certainly not a ship," he thinks to himself. As the speck gets closer and closer, he begins to rule out the possibilities of a small boat or even a raft.

Suddenly, emerging from the surf comes this drop-dead gorgeous voluptuous blonde wearing a wet suit and scuba gear. She approaches the stunned guy and asks, "How long has it been since you've had a cigarette?" "Ten years!" he says. She reaches over and unzips a waterproof pocket on her left sleeve and pulls out a packet of fresh cigarettes. He takes one, lights it, and takes a drag, and says, "Man, oh man! is that ever good!"

She then asks him, "How long has it been since you've had a sip of bourbon?" Trembling, he replies, "Ten Years!" She reaches over, unzips her waterproof pocket on her right sleeve, pulls out a flask, and gives it to him. He opens the flask, takes a long swig, and says, "Wow, that's absolutely fantastic!"

Then she starts slowly unzipping the long zipper that runs down the front of her wet suit, looks at him seductively and asks, "And how long has it been since you've played around?" The guy, with tears in his eyes, replies "Oh Sweet Lord God!"

Don't tell me you've got golf clubs in there!"

For you officers

A crusty old Navy Admiral found himself at a gala event downtown, hosted by a local liberal arts college. There was no shortage of extremely young, idealistic ladies in attendance, one of whom approached the admiral for conversation.

She said, "Excuse me, sir, but you seem to be a very serious man. Are you this way all the time, or is something bothering you?" "No!" the Admiral said, "just serious by nature."

The young lady looked at his awards and decorations and said, "It looks like you have seen a lot of action." The admiral's short reply was, "Yes, a lot of action."

The young lady, tiring of trying to start up a conversation, said, "You know, you should lighten up a little. Relax and enjoy yourself." The admiral just continued to stare at her in his serious manner.

Finally the young lady said, "You know, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but when is the last time you had sex?"

The admiral looked at her and replied, "1955." She said, "Well, there you go. You really need to chill out and quit
taking everything so seriously. I mean, no sex since 1955, isn't that a little extreme?"

The admiral, glancing at his watch, said in his matter-of-fact voice, "Oh
, I don't know; it's only 2130 now

 Hoot

Next letter I’ll cover the cold war memorial and some of the function the base gets involved in, if your not aware the Navy base is gone but we still have the weapons base which is used to train the nuclear power operators, that’s a story in itself, this is a short news letter, shipmates take care of your self and keep our troops in your prayers.
