Hi Everyone,
Jean and I went to Patriots Point
www.patriotspoint.org with
our oldest daughter Sherri , her husband James and our 4.5year old
granddaughter Chloe. Patriots Point has the USS Clamagore (SS-343) the USS
Yorktown CVS-,and other exhibits. The drive there is direct
and scenic, straight down I-26 and as you cross the new bridge over the
Cooper River you can see the USS Yorktown and Patriots Point. Make your
first right over the bridge and you are there. The parking, grounds and
exhibits areas and picnic areas are all well laid-out and the whole area
is very scenic with great views of the new bridge and Charleston
Harbor. There is a gedunk on the pier or you can "dine on Navy style chow"
in the CPO Quarters" (Goat Locker) onboard the USS Yorktown Tue-Sat 11-2
for $6.99. You can spend all the time you like on the Clamagore and there
are guided tours (included) on the Yorktown or you can wander on your
own. There is a really interesting Charleston Maritime Museum on the
Yorktown. All ladders, stairs etc, have been made as user-friendly as
possible and you could spend a lot of time seeing all there is to see. You
can also take a water taxi across the harbor to downtown Charleston, or
you can take a harbor boat tour, or a dinner cruise, all from Patriot's
Point, and there is a large gift shop with a very wide variety of goods at
very reasonable prices on the pier. The entire operation at Patriot's
Point is very well set up and provides a very interesting an enjoyable
trip. I am looking forward to going again.
