"Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life
worthwhile ... can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction,
I served in the United States Navy"

Our next reunion will be in Manitowoc Wisconsin, the birthplace of the Jallao.

The dates for the 2011 USS Jallao reunion are May 5th through the 8th 2011. Our coordinator will be non other than that bon-vivant and man of the world, Jerry Pilger, one of the few remaining Jallao Plankowners, and his able assistant Jan. This reunion is a return to the birthplace of the Jallao and the site of our first Jallao reunion. We had over 150 people in attendance, Jerry and Pete Amunrud did a fantastic job of organizing it. We expect another fantastic reunion, and it is being held in conjunction with the 28 boat reunion, held

annual in Manitowoc. You may have a chance to hobnob with other bubbleheads that you may have sailed with on other boats. Should be

a grand time for all. The Maritime Museum staff will light off one of the outboard engines, on the USS Legarto. This brought many a tear to the eye at our last reunion.

Some good old Navy humor

An old Navy Chief and an old Marine Gunny were sitting at the VFW arguing about who had the tougher career.

I did 30 years in the Corps, the Marine declared proudly, and fought in three of my country's wars. Fresh out of boot camp I hit the beach at Okinawa, clawed my way up the blood-soaked sand, and eventually took out an entire enemy machine gun nest with a single grenade.

As a sergeant, I fought in Korea alongside General MacArthur.
We pushed the enemy inch by bloody inch all the way up to the Chinese border, always under a barrage of artillery and small arms fire. Finally, as a gunny sergeant, I did three consecutive combat tours in Vietnam. We humped through the mud and elephant grass for 14 hours a day, plagued by rain and mosquitoes, ducking under sniper fire by day and mortar fire all night. In a firefight, we'd fire until our arms ached and our guns were empty, then we charge the enemy with bayonets.

Ah!” said the Sailor with envy. “You lucky bastard, all shore duty, huh?
